In 2020, we started a relationsihp with Herbert Hoover Middle School. Some members had paddles that were not on the Approved Paddle List, and others had balls other than Onix 2 Pure yellow balls.

Rather than have old equipment sit around, we found a middle school in need of equipement to start their pickleball program. Do you have paddles sitting around you don’t use? Or balls not valid for use here at the Villages? You can recycle them by helping school kids to learn the game we all love!

Balls can be donated to either Anahid Gregg (3213 Bracciano Court) or Michelle McQuay at the pickleball courts. Thank you!!!

And speaking of Michelle… as a bonus – did you have Michelle’s amazing Churro Cheesecake Bars at the Taco Party? She asked that I share the recipe. Enjoy – just in time for the holidays!

When playing, if you see a ball with the holes filled in with black ink, it belongs to the ball machine. So far, we’ve spent nearly $500 in ball machine balls, as over 70 have disappeared. If you see balls like these, please give them to Michelle McQuay or place them in the Lost and Found box. Many thanks!

Are you missing a water bottle, jacket, or vest? We have a surplus of each of those in the brown Lost and Found box to the left of the large shed in the Pickleball Court parking lot. Please get them ASAP. All items left after December 15th will be donated to VMA.

The Villages Pickleball Club competed in the annual VGCC vs SCVCC Invitational last Sunday at Silver Creek. Although all played hard, SCVCC won, but it was a fun-filled day. We’re looking forward to the Fall, when we will host them and take back the plaque! Currently, we’re tied 2-2 overall.

A lot of us enjoy watching sports during the Olympics, but… so far we haven’t been able to watch Pickleball! When will that occur? You can read Joyce’s opinion in this weeks article!

Were you amoung the over 100 people who attended the final Dink & Drink – our Taco Party??? This was one of our top attendance events, a great time was had by all. There were paddles lined up all afternoon, and amazing food provided by Citlaly’s Taco Catering.

It was a fitting end to our 2023 social events, we’re already looking forward to see what’s coming up in 2024! While Sherry & Michelle want to thank all their volunteers, we’d like to thank THEM for the great job they did!

Last week, Joyce wrote an informative article about Pickleball terms… something that can be quite confusing to new players! Well, and some of us oldtimers… have YOU ever heard of a Pickleball Falafel (it’s making me hungry…) or a Flabjack (who you callin’ flabby!?!)? Read on for more!

The Pickleball Club had an amazing weekend of play for our Battle of the Paddle. Our amazing tournament team of Sherry Benz and Michelle McQuay did it again! They were assisted by Anahid who handled the scoring. It never would have succeeded without the support team who setup, tore down and manned the food table: Stan Evert, Cheryl Heusser, Sheryl Ruth, Regina Franssen, Dari Tarabini, Valerie Simler, Cindy and Arthur Yu, Joanne Robinson, Kathy & Brian Dombrowski, Joyce Kludt, Laura Swenson, Julie Henig, MJ O’Neill, Srini Srinivasan, Mark Gregg, and Lesley Robinson! There were several hard fought battles, but more importantly there was a lot of laughter. The signups were terrific, leading to three divistions for the Women’s Doubles and two division for Men’s Doubles on Saturday.

Sunday saw three mixed divisions of doubles – Intermediate, Advanced Intermediate, and Advanced. Play was non-stop, and exciting to watch. The food was wonderful as always! We had several newcomers participate, and two double winners! Planning is already underway for next year- stay tuned for the exciting event schedule! The Battle of the Paddle is this weekend! Get ready for a lot of fun and action – all are welcome to attend! The Saturday draw is available now, and results will be posted after the tournament completes.
